SROI Practitioner Training
The Home of SROI
Social Value UK specialise in SROI training. Social Value UK’s flagship training course, SROI Practitioner training, has been running for nearly a decade, and has been delivered to over 1800 people across the public, private and civil society sectors globally. As the home of Social Return of Investment, we license this training to other providers on the market. Also, recently, our work was featured in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index around impact evaluation.
Social Value UK CEO Jeremy Nicholls has been at the forefront of Social Return on Investment since the beginning, co-authoring the original 2006 Guide to SROI. Social Value UK has published all following updates, amendments and supplements since 2009. Since we first started delivering SROI training in 2008 we have received excellent feedback. You can read just some of our testimonials at the bottom of this page.
Social Value UK, on behalf of Social Value International, is also the only place that offers SROI accreditation globally, after developing the only assurance process in existence. Individuals hoping to have a report assured or become an Accredited Practitioner will need to attend an accredited training course.
The course is accredited by the Institute of Leadership Management and is delivered by accredited trainers and SROI practitioners who have been involved in SROI for over a decade.
The course itself gives you the knowledge and tools necessary to measure and maximise the social value of your activities. So whether you’re a public body getting to grips with the Social Value Act, a charity measuring your impact and improving your services, or a private business looking at your triple bottom line, SROI training will help you. What does the SROI training course cover?
Day 1 is a practical, step-by-step introduction to the SROI process. We will begin with some theory, but the process is best learnt by trying it, so candidates will learn how to develop an impact map – the heart of the SROI process – and explore appropriate real life examples.
Day 2 covers in depth, more theoretical issues behind SROI including valuation techniques and counterfactuals, as well as discussing examples of best practice at different levels of rigour.
You can expect:
- to gain the knowledge and tools necessary to measure and maximise the social value of your activities
- to be guided through a step-by-step introduction to SROI
- to learn theory and policy background information
- support in developing an impact map based on your own example and not a standard case study
- to take away a resource pack full of everything you need to begin, including The Guide to SROI and supplements, Social Value Principles documentation, a spreadsheet preloaded with formulas and calculations, an impact map template and more
- discussions on best practice at all levels of rigour
- introductions to the range of support services we offer including Social Value Self Assessment Tool and Global Value Exchange
- to be starting your journey towards accreditation if desired

Free Governance Attendance
We appreciate that in order for you to embed social value in to your organisation it may be useful to have more than one decision maker in the room when learning about SROI. Therefore, we offer a limited number of free observer places on every course. Paying attendees have the opportunity to bring along a board member or member of the senior management team for the first morning of training. These places are limited, and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis for each course, please get in touch if you wish to utilise this opportunity.

“I am proud to say that I’ve just completed Social Value UK SROI practitioner training. My own views around social value and how to measure it have been challenged and turned upside down! The sheer scale, scope and potential that business/charities/groups have to do more good, maximising social investment is truly eye watering. Companies/charities/groups must look inward rather than outwards to maximise their social impact of their core business..imagine a world where everyone maximised their social value! Define…measure…and do more good!” Julie Cartwright, Eurovia UK
“Excellent course! Very rigorous and checked understanding frequently. I now realise the importance of stakeholder participation with regards to data recording and collection.” Kevin McCann, Magenta
“Good training with participative delivery, the style made possibly difficult topics palatable!” Elaine Harrison, London Borough of Bromley
“The course was fantastic. I knew I was going to enjoy it but I didn’t realise how much. I really feel that this approach is exactly what everyone should be doing!” Louisa Day, Fundraising Central
