Learn to identify and quantify the social value of research

What is this training?

In the run up to REF 2021 you will want to ensure all aspects of your research impact are identified and evidenced. Social value and social impact is an important aspect of research influence, this time social impact will be 20% of the score. Being able to identify and quantify the social value of research has huge potential to both strengthen REF impact case studies, and to increase the viability of funding applications. This workshop will explore the Principles of Social Value in the context of the guidance for preparing REF submissions. This will be a practical session designed to help attendees identify elements relevant to their own research area.

  • Relevant definitions

  • Answering questions on what we need to know in order to measure impact

  •  Principles of Social Value

  • Critique of previous REF frameworks and case studies

  • A spotlight on this year’s REF

  • Open discussion and ideas sharing

Who should attend?

Researchers with case studies on the development list are particularly encouraged to attend, but there will be useful and relevant information for all staff from all disciplines, at all stages of research planning.
